ABOUT IAN MATHIESON

Ian believes that, with vision, courage and behaviour to match, we all can empower ourselves and each other to maximize the opportunities around us. His Vision is to enable people to change and grow, and to enable businesses and other organisations to improve their efficiency and effectiveness.

Business faces increasing pressures to improve performance. Many old paradigms have failed or are faltering. An organisation’s people are its most valuable resource and investment in them is an investment in the prosperity of the business. Just as we benefit from a personal trainer for fitness, business can benefit from an experienced professional coach, adviser and consultant.

Ian’s work encompasses coaching, training, consulting and hands-on management. He has spoken at national industry conferences and trained thousands of middle and senior managers. He has facilitated more than one hundred strategic and business planning programs and provided direct coaching for CEOs and senior managers of local, national and international businesses.

Ian has consulted in a variety of enterprise in Australia and internationally, mainly medium-sized and large businesses, government departments and government-owned corporations. He utilized his skills and capabilities in the establishment, ongoing management and growth of City Design, Brisbane City Council’s engineering, architectural and project management business, with a staff of 325 and turnover of $63m.

He has seven times taken control of distressed businesses and successfully executed corporate restructurings, requiring skills in rebuilding business, negotiating with owners, boards, banks secured creditors and the ATO.

Ian co-authored The Effective Leader, which was launched in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Management. The Effective Leader is widely used as a reference in both operations and training across all sectors. He co-authored What Do Women Really Want, a fresh approach to a complex subject with simple to understand strategies for women to assist in navigating our increasingly complicated lives. The real life stories illustrate a broad range of situations with point style guidelines on how to get the best (or least worst) out of a situation for one’s self.

He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
